Temporary Easements

  • Easement with an independent connectionAn easement authorizes one property owner (Property B) to use someone else's property (Property A). In the nonconforming sewer diagram on the right, an easement allows the private sewer line from Property B to cross Property A to connect to the public sewer.
  • If you plan to apply for a temporary sewer easement, Environmental Services staff must review and approve it before you apply with Multnomah County for the easement.
  • Temporary easements are in force for a limited or conditional time. Typically, staff will approve temporary sewer easements until the city constructs a public sewer available that is available to your property for direct connection.
  • City staff rarely approve permanent sewer easements. The city approves permanent sewer easement only where extending the public sewer is too dfficult or costly.
