The Office of the Chief provides overall direction and management of PF&R. The Chief ensures that PF&R complies with Federal, State, and local regulations in the areas of fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, investigation, and disaster mitigation. Additional functions include Communications, Human Resources, and Employee Assistance.
Communications - Public Information & Education
The Communications Group directs public education efforts, community outreach, and media relations for PF&R. The group also provides strategic communications support to Core leadership, manages the PF&R website, coordinates events and campaigns, and provides graphic design support to PF&R. Educational programs are developed and implemented through the Belmont Firehouse & Safety Learning Center, local schools, community organizations and events, and in the fire stations. Through news releases, social media, and traditional media outlets, Public Information Officers (PIO) work as liaisons to communicate emergency response information and relevant safety messages to the public.
Human Resources oversees employee selection and retention, the labor/management committee, labor relations, diversity development, affirmative action, legislative analysis, performance management, records retention, and workforce planning.
Employee Assistance Program
This program provides support for human resources, specializing in confidential counseling to help firefighters and all staff deal with the immediate and long-term emotional impact of the emergencies they encounter in the line of duty.
