Adams announces Sunday Parkways locations for 2012,
includes SW neighborhoods for first time

PORTLAND,Ore.– Locations and dates for Sunday Parkways 2012 were announced today by Portland Mayor Sam Adams at the State of the City address. This summer, the popular outdoor event will be held in southwestPortlandneighborhoods for the first time.

“Sunday Parkways has become a summer highlight for thousands of us. This year looks to be the biggest and best yet, with Sunday Parkways coming to southwestPortlandneighborhoods like Hillsdale for the first time. I’m confident they’ll love it and turn out in droves,” Mayor Sam Adams said.

Sunday Parkways is a series of free community events opening the city's largest public space – its streets – for people to walk, bike, roll and discover active transportation. Estimates put total attendance at the events at more than 100,000 since 2008. Residents and visitors say they come to enjoy the traffic-free loop of streets connecting parks and schools filled with activities, music and vendors. It’s safe, family-friendly and a chance to meet neighbors.

Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation thanks to presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente, and partners at Portland Parks & Recreation and Universal Cycles.

"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with the city and contribute significantly to the success of Sunday Parkways. As the popularity of the event has grown, it's become part of the fabric ofPortlandlife. We're so pleased that an activity that promotes health and community has taken root here, because it fits so well with Kaiser Permanente's mission," said Sue Hennessy, vice president at Kaiser Permanente Northwest.

Sunday Parkways takes place on one Sunday each month from May through September in a different area of the city. This year will be the first time that an event will come to southwestPortlandneighborhoods outside of downtown.

Five dates and locations are scheduled for Sunday Parkways 2012:

- May 13 –Northeast Portland

- June 24 –North Portland

- July 22 –Southwest Portland

- August 26 –Southeast Portland

- September 30 –East Portland
