Meter Enforcement
Vehicles parking in violation of meter regulations are subject to citation and/or tow. Below are descriptions of common issues related to parking in Portland's meter districts.
Overtime:
Leave the blockface when the time limit of a short-term meter is over. A short-term meter has a time limit of less than 4 hours. Also see Re-parking below.
Re-parking:
At a short-term meter (less than 4 hours), do not return sooner than 3 hours to the same blockface.
Broken Meter:
Park only for the designated time limit at a broken short-term meter (less than 4 hours).
To Report a Broken Meter:
Leave a note under your vehicle's windshield wiper and call 503-823-7200.
Over Space Line:
The vehicle must be totally within front and rear space lines (including trailer hitch and other attachments). The yellow curb between parking spaces is for maneuvering only.
Yellow Curb:
A yellow curb means "No Parking" regardless of location.
Crosswalk and Handicapped Access:
Do not park in a crosswalk, whether marked or unmarked, or in front of a handicapped access ramp.
Wrong Way:
Park in the direction of traffic at parallel and angle spaces. Motorcycles may angle park in a parallel space.
Parked without Paying:
Any vehicle that remains in the same spot for more than 30 seconds is considered "parked" - even with a driver at the wheel.
Double Parking:
Do not stop or park next to another parked vehicle.
