Dedication of property for public purposes is sometimes required as part of land development projects.
As a condition of your building permit, you may be required to dedicate an area of your property for street improvements, a sidewalk, a bike lane, a sewer pipeline, or other utilities as part of the development.
Or, if you are seeking approval of a land use application, it may be a condition of that approval that property be dedicated for street widening or some other public improvement that will be necessary in the future.

You'll need to provide the following information:
- The name/location of your project, your case number, which is on the notice you received, or your building permit number.
- Proof of ownership. This can be a copy of a preliminary title report, a plant service report, a title policy, or a subdivision guarantee, any of which can be obtained form title insurance company. A copy of the last deed or county tax print-out is not enough to prove ownership.
You may also have to provide a legal description of the area to be dedicated.
Once we receive the necessary information, please allow three weeks
. We'll prepare the conveyance document and send it to you for your notarized signature. If you have any questions or concerns, you may want to have your attorney review the document before signing. Then, return the signed document to the City Right-of-Way Office.
After the City Attorney reviews and approves the document, it will be sent to the City Engineer for acceptance and then recorded in County Deed Records.
Dedication of the required right-of-way must be complete before building permits or development approvals can be granted. Avoid delays. make sure to include the dedication process in your development schedule.
