Resource/Records Counter

The Resource/Records counter provides access to a variety of building records, publications, maps and other construction related information.  At the Resource/Records counter you can research permit and construction information, use the self-service information center, and purchase building and land use related documents.
 
The Resource/Records counter is located in the Development Services Center. The Resource/Records staff can be contacted at (503) 823-7660.

Property Research

When planning a project there are three steps involved in collecting the documentation, and information necessary to make your project a success. If you're not sure if you're looking for information on a permit or a land use review, you can find out the difference.
 
STEP 1
  • Address of the property
  • Tax account number (Call Multnomah County at (503) 988-3326)
  • Legal description of the property
  • Owner’s name & address
  • Are there services to the property including fire access, water supply, public streets, sanitary sewer and storm facilities?
  • Are there other City regulations that would apply to this property including street trees, new driveway and system development charges?
  • What are the building code requirements related to the project?
  • Check the permit history on the existing structure
You can collect the information listed above at the Resource/Records Counter at the Development Services Center. If you're looking for a list of permits and land use reviews for a particular property, you can find them at our Permit/Case Search.
 
STEP 2
After you have collected the information/documents about your property, the next step is to visit Planning and Zoning staff at the Development Services Center to gather the following information:
  • What is the zoning of the property and does it allow you to do what you want to do?
  • Based on the zoning, how big a building can be built? Does the building fit on the site? How many units can be on the site? How tall can the building be?
  • Is there any land use review history on the property?
  • What is the current legal use of the building?
  • Was the lot created through a subdivision review? If yes, is it vested under prior zoning regulations?
  • Is this a "new" lot? If yes, have both City and County approved the land division?
  • Is the lot slope greater than 20%? If so, what are the elevations?
  • Is the lot in the floodplain?
  • Do you need a land use review?
