BDS Director Paul Scarlett and I were guest speakers at the "Russian House of the Future" forum in Moscow, Russia on July 5th.
We first to spent the morning listening (via translators!) to members of the government, finance, housing, and architecture communities discuss the opportunities and issues facing addressing the shortage of housing in Russia. After lunch it was our turn to present! 40 people attended our session and asked many questions ranging from how we fire proof wood structures to how many designs were in the Living Smart competition, to how unique our public participation model is to them.
After the forum we joined several of the speakers and participants form Holland and Russia, and walked to a neighborhood restaurant to continue the discussion of housing, design, urban planning and of course traveling! As we walked back to the hotel after dinner, Paul realized how light it was at 10:30 at night! The street lights were not on yet! It was an enriching time and an honor to represent the City of Portland.
