The event was held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2nd and 3rd and included 10 properties in North & NE Portland, 63 repair projects, 35 volunteers and re-invested over $5800 of labor and materials into the community.
6 volunteers from Neighborhood Inspections and Compliance Services, Crystle Cowen and her son Cameron, Kathy Saunders, Nick Atanasov, Victor Unkow and Michael Liefeld joined several other volunteers to assist 2 different low income owner occupied senior households in NE Portland. The volunteers worked several hours and work included: Yard Pruning and clean up, basic home interior and exterior repairs, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. One of the property owners 2 relatives also helped and worked along side our volunteers.
This was a great opportunity for out staff to give back to the community and assist older low income individuals to be able to stay in their homes in NE Portland. It is very rewarding to help a vulnerable neighbor in need. REACH CDC is one of Neighborhood Inspections direct partners and Stakeholders as we make up to 60 referrals throughout the year for low income owner occupied properties with cited Title 29 Code Violations for assistance to make needed repairs.
The next REACH group volunteer activity will be on a Saturday in March 2008. If interested in volunteering or to get more information please call REACH at 503-231-0682 or visit their website at reachcdc.org.
