Gerding Edlen Development Co. is moving ahead with its renovation of the historic Meier & Frank warehouse into office and retail space. GBD Architects last night unveiled its first proposed design of the building to a Pearl District Neighborhood Association committee, which voted unanimously in support of the design.
Plans for the five-story Meier & Frank Delivery Depot at 1417 N.W. Everett St. call for offices to occupy the top three stories with a new SageGlass-walled penthouse on the fifth floor. Stacked parking is included in a second-floor garage. And retail space occupies the ground floor, alongside a potential 6,000 square-foot event room to be rented for community gatherings and private functions.
The building's cast-concrete exterior, now boarded up and prey to graffiti, will be restored and the windows replaced.
"A lot of repair has to be done," Keith Skille, project manager for GBD, said. "Because the windows are cast into the concrete wall that in some cases is spalled so bad there's exposed rebar." [Read full article]
