On April 3, 2008 BDS participated in the 2008 City of Portland Job Fair at the Double Tree, Lloyd Center. There were over 20 city bureaus represented including the Bureau of Development Services. There were sessions thought out day on resume writing and How to Apply for City Jobs sponsored by BHR.
Hundreds of enthusiastic potential candidates visited the BDS booth during the ten hour job fair to get information on current and future positions in BDS, as well as information about openings in other bureaus. One of the hot items at the BDS booth was the new BDS green re-useable bags. You could find one swung over almost every shoulder during the fair.
Also popular at the BDS booth was our Helpful Hints handout “On how to apply for jobs with the City of Portland” and our Interviewing Techniques handout, compliments of our Training and Development Section Lead by Adrienne Edwards.
Last but not least was the BDS staff manning the job booth which was lead by Carol Richard who was responsible for organizing and managing this event for BDS. The team consisted of: Carol Richard, Mick Mickles, Markus Maniar, Joe Botkin, Mieke Stekelenburg, Dan Collins, Mark Fetters, Mikal Shabazz, Jeff Strang, Russ Young, Brian Quattlebaum and a special thanks to Patrick Philpott for all his logistical support to the team. Thanks to all for a job well done.
