On May 10, 2008, the Bureau of Development Services participated in an exciting and unique event. AsiaFest took place at the Oregon Convention Center and was sponsored by the Asian Reporter Foundation.
The celebration was an opportunity for people with different cultures to come together and celebrate their differences at the same time to "share, educate, and celebrate Asian culture and heritage". The celebration included culture dances, music, food, crafts and education. There were various activities and many booths from local businesses and non-profit organizations.
BDS participated in this exciting event with the goal of reaching out to the community to share with them the value of permits and building safety. In addition, we provided handouts presenting the different services and programs the Bureau offers.
Thank you to McKenzie James and Nauman Quraishi for contributing the time to work on BDS' busy booth. The booth was popular, especially with the Junior inspector hats that were given away at the event.
BDS' booth was visited by Commissioner Sam Adams and Sho Dozono.
