PORTLAND, Ore. -- Contractors shoring up a Southwest Portland hillside after a house collapse worked through the weekend to beat the fall rain.
The home on SW Burlingame Place slid 300 feet down a SW Portland hillside, crashing into the home below. Miraculously, no one was injured but several other homes were damaged and seven homes had to be evacuated.
Contractors said Monday they were able to get supplies and crews to work Saturday morning to start covering the area to prevent more erosion.
"I can't say enough about the contractor's response. Once the contract was awarded, they jumped right in and began helping," Paul Scarlett, city Bureau of Development Services Director said. "It was a race against the clock, but I'm pleased to report that the plastic was in place by Sunday evening just in time for this morning's rain. I'm so glad we could provide some desperately needed assistance to these homeowners." [Read more]
