Effective January 3, 2012, BDS unveiled a new pilot program in response to customer requests that will allow them to secure a time certain appointment in the Development Services Center (DSC) to obtain information about the development process, zoning questions, discussions with a plans examiner or other BDS staff. This pilot program, while requiring submittal of a fee, allows parties to avoid the periodic delay experienced at the DSC and provides greater certainty in terms of time spent obtaining needed information.
Customers may sign up for DSC appointments, either through the BDS website or in person at the DSC. An application will need to be submitted, provide basic property information, the questions you want to discuss, along with the $75 fee. The meetings are 30 minutes in length, and an individual staff person representing the department of the applicant’s choosing will represent BDS at the meeting. A written summary, in the form of IQ notes, will be created within the BDS permitting system, and provided to the customer at the conclusion of the appointment. No research will be conducted prior to meeting with the customer (such as building permit or land use history) and no action will be taken on any active permits at the meeting.
During the 6 month pilot period, appointments will be available during the following times: Two times each on Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons. Appointments will be scheduled a minimum of 6 calendar days prior to the occurrence of the appointment to accommodate staffing needs. Other types of early assistance meetings are also available, including those tailored specifically to Land Use questions or Limited Consultation meetings, where more than one city staff person would better fit the needs of the customer.
