Summer is waning, which means the City’s budget planning season is just around the corner! We will soon begin developing our budget request for Fiscal Year 2014-15 (July 2014 – June 2015). All City bureaus will be required to submit their budget requests by early February 2014.
As in years past, we will be actively seeking the input of a variety of stakeholders, including customers, employees, advisory groups, and the community. In the next month we will be forming a Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) composed of representatives from many of our stakeholder groups. The BAC meets several times during the fall and plays a key role in providing direction and feedback regarding our strategic priorities and budget decisions.
In addition to the BAC, our budget planning process will involve the BDS Labor Management Committee (LMC), the Development Review Advisory Committee (DRAC), the BDS Financial Advisory Committee, and BDS employees. These groups will review our financial information and give us their input on budget decisions.
BDS Director Paul Scarlett says, “The Bureau is committed to receiving input from a rich, diverse pool of interested parties. This helps us to focus resources on programs and services that are relevant and necessary to improve the bureau's operation.”
BAC meetings are always open to the public, and we welcome participation by all interested parties. For more information about BDS’s budget and the BAC, please contact Mark Fetters, BAC Coordinator at (503) 823-1028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
