Budget & Financial Plan Update

BDS staff has been meeting frequently with stakeholder groups as we work to formulate our budget request and updated 5-Year Financial Plan for Fiscal Year 2015-16 (July 2015 – June 2016). In the last couple months we have met with the Development Review Advisory Committee (DRAC), the BDS Budget Advisory Committee (BAC), and our Financial Advisory Committee on several occassions. These groups have provided valuable input on our operation, budget priorities, and long-term financial planning. We have also received significant input from BDS employees through budget drop-in sessions held in December and January. 

Budget UpdateThough the Requested Budget is not yet finalized, it will likely include requests for up to 20 additional fee-support positions in the next fiscal year. These positions are being added to respond to increased workloads and help us meet our service level goals. In addition to workloads and increased service levels, the additional FTE would be assisting in achieving our equity goals by improving services and delivery of our programs. The BAC and BDS employees have provided valuable input during these processes. The extra positions will be included in our 5-Year Financial Plan, and current financial projections indicate that there will be sufficient revenues to support these positions for the next 5 years.  

We are also working with our BAC on a request for additional support from the City’s General Fund for positions in our Neighborhood Inspections Program. 

Thanks to continued strong revenues, we will not be increasing fees in 2015 other than for the Environmental Soils Program, which continues to recover from historic underfunding.  This will be our second consecutive year with no other fee increases.
