Permit Submittals that include Copyright Notices

The Bureau of Development Services occasionally receives drawing submittals that include a copyright notation from the designer that reads “this note must be in red for this to be an authorized copy”, or similar language that establishes the validity of a drawing set. There are instances in which the submittal does not carry the stamp in red, or conform with other noted criteria for use.

Copyright Notice - Stamp in Red

Copyright Notice - Stamp in Red

In the past, BDS has not consistently required verification from the designer that the submitted plan is a legal copy. In an effort to partner with the design community and adhere to copyright laws, BDS will no longer accept these plans unless the plans reflect all requirements noted on them, including red stamps where indicated.

BDS is posting this alert in an effort to prevent confusion and delays in accepting drawings for review. For other information on plan submittal requirements, please refer to the web pages for your specific permit or project type, http://www.portlandoregon.gov/bds/35883.
