Odors are usually not perceptible beyond the boundaries of the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Occasionally, plant maintenance projects on odor control equipment will release odors that may be perceptible in neighborhoods surrounding the plant.
Environmental Services issues advance notices of maintenance projects that may result in odors outside the plant’s boundaries.
Current Maintenance Projects:

Digester #9 will be filled and put into operation. This digester was out of service for routine preventative maintenance and cleaning. We perform these routine cleaning procedures to maximize digester productivity and remove any debris that cannot be biologically digested. During the filling process, it is possible for odors to escape the digester. While we don’t expect these odors to be perceptible outside the confines of the plant, this is a possibility.
We know these odors can be unpleasant and we make every effort to reduce them. Odor control is important to us at the plant, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know of odors in your area.
