Galega officinalis (goatsrue)

  • goatsrue in bloomODA “A” rank species (ODA ranking page)
  • USDA Noxious Weed
  • Portland 'Required Eradication' species

Goatsrue was intentionally introduced to Utah in the late 1800s, and has spread to several other states in recent years, both in the Pacific Northwest and on the east coast. The results of herbicide trials suggest it’s not easy to eradicate, with a deep tap root and long-lived seeds. All parts of the plant are toxic to livestock, so goatsrue is not just a locally and state-listed noxious species, but federally listed, as well.
