Environmental Services completed construction of the Lents Sewer Extension Project and a new sewage pump station in 2012. The facility on the north side of SE Harney Street just east of SE 83rd Avenue pumps wastewater from the new sewer pipe to a gravity sewer west of Harney.
Connecting to the New Sewer
Environmental Services has notified property owners who have three years from the date of the notification to connect to the new sewer. Please refer to our letter concerning the required connection of your property. If you have any questions please call Required Sewer Connection staff at 503-823-4114.
The city recovers sewer construction costs by collecting fees from customers. The fees are your share of the costs of constructing the sewer line in the street (line charge), the branch to your property (branch charge), and sewage treatment and discharge facilities. Before you or your contractor can buy permits to connect to the new public sewer, you must pay or finance your city sewer charges. The city offers all property owners loans of up to 20 years to finance connection charges
Connecting to the public sewer system without securing the appropriate permits and paying the line, branch and system development charges is illegal. Portland City Code authorizes Environmental Services to take enforcement action against properties with illegal sewer connections, including withholding water and sewer service, and imposing penalties and fines.
