Environmental Services will start work in spring 2013 on the first phase of a project to repair deteriorating sewer pipes in the Vernon, Sabin, and Alameda neighborhoods. Sewers in these neighborhoods are between 90 to 100 years old.
This project will repair about 9,400 feet of sewer and about 5,100 feet of lateral pipes to connect individual properties to the public sewer. The city's contractor will use both open trench construction and cured-in-place pipe lining to repair sewers.
There will be two construction phases (please see maps and schedules below).
To prepare for the large construction equipment the contractor will use on this project, Portland Parks & Recreation arborists will trim street trees and low branches of private trees. The trimming will reduce the possibility of large equipment damaging trees and will help ensure public safety.
Portland City Code requires property owners to maintain street trees adjacent to their property and keep limbs at least 7.5 feet above sidewalks and 11 feet above streets. But all tree trimming for this project will be done at the city's expense.
