SW 1st Avenue closed last night (8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6) between SW Jefferson and SW Columbia streets for an emergency sewer repair project. The street is likely to be closed for most of the day today and could re-open temporarily late this afternoon.
A sewer line near the intersection of SW 1st and Jefferson has collapsed. Today Environmental Services is installing a temporary line to convey sewage around the damaged pipe. That work will close a traffic lane on SW Jefferson Street between SW 1st Avenue and SW Naito Parkway.
After the temporary bypass pipe is installed, SW 1st Avenue will re-open temporarily. Next week, Environmental Services will begin a project to replace the damaged sewer near 1st and Jefferson. That work will close SW 1st Avenue again next week. The closure times and construction hours have yet to be determined.
