Fanno Creek Trail Reopened after sewage release Friday night

A sewage release was reported at SW 79th off Garden Home along the Fanno Creek Trail at about 7:15 pm Friday night.  Approximately 15,000 gallons of sewage was released along the trail by the time the sewage stopped leaking at 12:30 am. The pressure main was shut off at a pump station and diverted. No service was interupted to the neighborhood. The trail has been reopened after being closed from SW 78th to SW 81st overnight.  Hazmat cleaned the trail where the sewage leak by power washing with a bleach and water solution.

All sewage was contained along the trail within a 100 foot area and did not reach the catch basin. No sewage was released into Fanno Creek. Environmental Services is investigating the cause of the leak, but think it may be a pressure main malfunction.
