Environmental Services is designing a project to construct ten green street facilities in 2014 on SE Tacoma Street and SE 21st Avenue. Green streets are vegetated planters that collect stormwater runoff from streets and allow water to soak into the ground as soil and plants filter pollutants. The ten new green streets will manage stormwater runoff from nearly two acres of street surface and will keep polluted stormwater from flowing into Crystal Springs Creek.
The project includes constructing new sidewalks and curbs along SE 21st between Tacoma and Tenino. The new green streets, sidewalks, curbs and pedestrian crossing will replace some on-street parking in these areas:
- Ten spaces on SE Tacoma between SE 19th and 21st
- Seven spaces on SE 21st between Tacoma and Tenino
- Eight spaces near the intersection of SE 21st and Umatilla
