Environmental Services has almost completed the design of the SE Hawthorne-Salmon Area Project which will include installing stormwater infiltration facilities, planting street trees, and constructing pipe, extending the service life of sewers and advancing watershed health goals. This project is located in the SE Hawthorne Boulevard and Salmon area from SE 41st to 50th and SE Yamhill and Harrison streets. The work will reduce the risk of sewer backups into basements and streets. This project is part of the Tabor to the River Program.
Construction in 2015 on Hawthorne Boulevard will temporarily remove parking.
The project will significantly impact businesses and residents because construction will require removal of parking on both sides of SE Hawthorne Boulevard between SE 41st and 49th avenues. The mainline pipe construction zone will be in the middle of Hawthorne and the city's contractor will keep traffic moving in both directions on either side of the construction area. When the contractor installs sewer laterals to connect businesses to the mainline sewer, traffic will move through the construction zone on the opposite side of the street. During construction at intersections, traffic will not be able to turn off of Hawthorne in some directions and vehicles may occasionally be restricted to a single lane with flaggers directing traffic.
For More Information
Communication will be important for everyone involved to ensure the least disruption to business and daily activities. This questionnaire is designed to gather contact information and information about property use along the construction route. Environmental Services will share this information with the construction contractor for use in keeping property and business owners in the loop, and construction on schedule.
