City-wide Commercial and Industrial Planting – Waitlist from 2015-2016

Project Update 8/22/16:  Inspectors are currently re-marking all frontages with space for street trees at waitlisted properties.  Look for white marks on the curb.  If there is no curb at the frontage, look for white paint circles with pin-and-whisker markers.

before and after tree planting

Congratulations, your wait is over! The Tree Program is excited to plant your new street trees this coming winter.

A City contractor will plant street trees at commercial and industrial properties from our 2015-2016 waitlist. Tree planting includes concrete cut-outs where necessary.  For the first three summers, all trees planted will be watered by our contractors at no cost to the property owner.  In return, the property owner must assume the long-term care and stewardship of all trees planted.

Industrial and commercial areas present unique challenges for tree planting. The need for vehicle clearance, sight lines for store fronts, and pedestrian circulation all influence where trees may be planted safely, and inspectors take all these things into consideration when placing white marks and selecting an appropriate tree for the space. The Tree Program will provide on-site consultation following an inspection as necessary to ensure tree locations meet the tenant’s needs. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.

There are many reasons you might want to consider tree planting for your commercial or industrial property. Street trees provide shade, reduce urban heat island temperatures, and improve walkability on urban streets. Trees reduce air pollution and stress, contributing to a healthier environment for employees and tenants.
