BES is currently monitoring flow in Miller Creek. This monitoring began in late August 2002 and continued through December 2002, then resumed in May 2003. Winter flows were not measured due to concern that the flow sensors would be damaged by rocks and large debris that move within the stream during winter months.

A preliminary analysis of the flow data revealed that for much of the year, there is little flow in Miller Creek. During the spring (mid May-mid July), flow started out at approximately 0.1cfs and dwindled to 0 by early June. Average spring flow in Miller Creek was less than 0.1cfs. The lowest summer flow in Miller Creek was 0cfs. This occurred throughout most of the summer. Peak flow during the summer was 0.22cfs, and occurred towards the end of May 2003 (Miller Fig 7). Precipitation data were not yet available for the 2003 summer months.

During the fall, flow in Miller Creek was very low (close to 0cfs) until November. Average flow was 0.15cfs, with increases following precipitation. The largest flows during fall 2002 (15.5cfs on 12/16/02) occurred after six days of rain. Still, not all rain events produced increased flows in the creek. For example, precipitation data show a rain event on 9/30/02 of 0.49 inches, but flow in Miller Creek did not increase significantly (Miller Fig’s 6 and 8). This may have been due to the fact that it had not rained much before this date.
