The Transportation Work Study Intern position in Permit Engineering Development Review serves the engineering staff in both the technical and clerical areas relating to public street improvement projects. 

Description of Duties:

  • Create As-Built Drawings of recently constructed projects.   The Mylar original drawings are updated with field construction notes and changes.
  • Purge Construction Files of completed projects.   File contents are reviewed and non-essential documents are removed and discarded.
  • Prepare Files for Microfilm.   File contents are reviewed and certain key documents are identified for the permanent project record.   These key documents are assembled for microfilming.   A microfilm order is placed and the documents are shipped for microfilming.  When documents are returned, most of the file materials are discarded.
  • Track street job permit process.   Notify applicant of the requirements to take out permit.  Provide applicant with necessary forms (e.g. performance bond form).  Prepare project for closure and close project.  Prepare cost accounting records.  Perform other general file maintenance tasks associated with street improvement projects.

Requirement/Skills:

  • College level math skills are essential.  Basic computer skills must include word processing (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheets (Excel).
  • Must be detail oriented because of the sensitivity of land use requirements, engineering, and financial expenditures.
  • Ability to work productively with developers, design professionals, project contractors, other government agencies, and utility company representatives.
  • Ability to work independently since the assigned tasks must be completed with minimal direct supervision

Work Schedule: Flexible according to your academic schedule.  Variable during business hours of Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm.  Preferred 10 to 16 hour commitment a week.
