Risk Management, Portland, OR 07/01/2013
To address ergonomic risk factors and injuries, OSHA recommends the following types of controls be implemented in the order listed:
- Engineering Controls: Focus on adjusting workstations, tools, equipment, and work flow.
- Administrative Controls: Control or prevent workplace risk factors by implementing changes such as job rotation, rest breaks, changing pace, redesign methods or processes, worker education and training.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE should be used in addition to or when other controls are not practical, or do not control the risks. PPE may include items such as knee pads or various types of gloves.
Note: Back belts and wrist braces or supports are not considered PPE
