Scheduling an Instructor

Starting July 2015, a new scheduling procedure for driving related services will be in effect. Bureaus will schedule directly with Gene Rushing for all bureau specific services including but not limited to:

  • Defensive driving classes
  • Van driving classes
  • Behind the wheel coaching
  • CDL classes

Gene Rushing can be reached by email gene1126@myfrontiermail.com or by phone 503-539-5024

How to complete Service request form

An authorized Bureau representative will complete the Driver Training Service Request Form.  The entire form must be completed before services can be provided.  Both the Bureau representative and the trainer must sign the form. Upon completion of the training class, the form must be sent to City Risk.

This form will be used to calculate the Bureau’s cost for services.  Bureau’s IA will be charged for the training.

How to schedule classes

When scheduling a Defensive driving or van driving class it must be scheduled in City Learner.  All driver trainings are scheduled and tracked in City Learner. If classes are not scheduled in City Learner the classes will not count. Employees will not be given credit. To schedule a class in city learner please contact Shelia Sylvester by email  Shelia.sylvester@portlandoregon.gov or by phone  (503) 823-6846.

Offsite class procedures

If a class has been scheduled at an offsite Bureau location the Bureau representative is in charge of the training and ensure employees sign up for the course in City Learner. The Bureau representative will schedule the class in City Learner.  The Instructor will send the representative the roster the day before the training. The Bureau Representative will send the roster after training is completed to Sheila Sylvester.  Bureau representative will also work with the instructor to make sure site location has all the necessary equipment and room set up for the training. Instructor will typically need the following items for a driving presentation:

  • Laptop (if available)
  • Computer plug in
  • Projector (if available)
  • Dry erase board or flip chart with pens
  • Room set up classroom style with seats for all attendees

Instructor will hand out evaluation forms. Instructor will take the forms and return to City Risk for evaluation. City Risk will use this information for presentation content evaluation.
