Acquisition, Make-Ready & Disposal
In the acquisition stage, vehicle procurement professionals analyze bureau needs for a vehicle or piece of equipment. Customers are a major part of this process, as they provide input to draft specifications that will lead to the right equipment for the job. CityFleet staff review and modify proposals to best match bureau requests with what is available on the market. CityFleet is tasked by City Code to purchase and maintain all city vehicles and equipment which includes a variety of units such as motorcycles, SMART cars, sedans, vans, SUVs, pickups in various weights, dump trucks, loaders, trailers, vactors, and many other specialized equipment. CityFleet's goal is to purchase each vehicle as fully equipped with what is needed as possible to minimize additional custom outfitting costs.
When there is a special use for a vehicle, or to better meet safety standards, the Vehicle Processing Center can custom outfit new and current inventory. Decals and other identification materials are also installed by the CityFleet Vehicle Processing Center.
Once a vehicle has reached the end of its useful life, or vehicle life cycle, CityFleet will dispose of it through the most profitable means possible. The current method of vehicle disposition is through sales at auction. The salvage value amount received for the vehicle is credited back to the bureau as part of the vehicle replacement fund.
