Portland’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a strategy to put Portland and Multnomah County on a path to achieve a 40 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050 (compared to 1990 levels). The plan builds upon a legacy of forward-thinking climate protection initiatives by the City of Portland and Multnomah County that have resulted in significant total and per person reductions in local carbon emissions.
The CAP was designed to be revised periodically to respond to emerging opportunities, build on successes, and incorporate lessons learned. BPS and Multnomah County are currently working on an update to the 2009 CAP. Staff are identifying which actions should continue, which should be dropped, as well as proposing new actions to be added.
A steering committee has been formed to advise the City of Portland and Multnomah County on the CAP update actions and development process.
