City Council and Port Commission consider West Hayden Island Concept Plan alternatives

Watch video of presentation and discussion; take survey online

On October 12, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability staff and our consultant, Worley Parsons, gave an overview of the West Hayden Island Concept Plan alternatives at a joint briefing to the Portland City Council and the Port Commission. Both alternatives (A and B) accommodate no more than 300 acres of marine terminal development and no fewer than 500 acres of protected open space. They include variations on the terminal operations, open space enhancement, transportation network and recreational opportunities. The City and Port Commissioners were engaged in the presentation, asking questions and having a lively discussion.

You can also view a summary of the presentation and take an online survey at our Virtual Open House.

Comments on the WHI Concept Plan alternatives will be accepted until Nov. 7, 2011.

West Hayden Island Open Houses — Recap and Pictures

Public views and discusses concept plan alternatives

open houseOn Wednesday evening, October 12 and Saturday morning, October 15, the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability hosted two open houses for the public to learn about the West Hayden Island draft concept plan alternatives. Attendees had an opportunity to speak with staff at a series of “stations,” which featured topics such as rail operations, transportation, natural resources and recreation. Participants also filled out comment cards to indicate what elements of each alternative they liked and didn’t like — and why. Commissioner Amanda Fritz attended both events to talk with the public about the project and hear people’s perspectives on the potential development of a marine terminal on West Hayden Island.

More pictures from the open houses are now available Flickr.

If you missed the open houses, you can still learn about the draft concept plans and provide feedback during “office hours” on the island and online at our virtual open house.
