On July 29th, the Council voted 4-0 to continue planning efforts for a potential marine terminal and open space on WHI
After listening to several hours of testimony on the evening of July 29th, the City Council voted 4-0 (Leonard absent) on a resolution to move forward on planning efforts to potentially develop a concept plan on West Hayden Island (WHI) that includes up to 300 acres of development for marine terminal facilities while preserving 500 acres for open space. The approved resolution, originally proposed by the Mayor included amendments submitted by the other three council members. Click here to see the Bureau's posting on the decision. Schedule for Council Session on West Hayden Island at 6p.m. on 7/29
The City Council will consider two items at their session for West Hayden Island on July 29th at 6p.m. One will be to accept the report from the Community Working Group (CWG). The second will be to consider the Mayor's resolution to move forward with the planning process.
The session will include short presentations given by Planning & Sustainability staff and the chair of the CWG. CWG members will have an opportunity to comment, which will then be followed by general testimony.
There will be three sign up sheets posted at 5p.m. for general testimony - for those in favor of the recommendation, for those opposed, and for those not sure/other. The council clerk will rotate through those sheets - calling people from each of the three.

At the City Council session on West Hayden on Thursday, July 29th at 6p.m., Mayor Adams will propose a resolution to continue planning and annexation efforts on West Hayden Island, but with limitations intended to guide any planning efforts to preserve open space and minimize the area where planning for a potential marine terminal could be allowed. The West Hayden Island Community Working Group has released the report, that lists their findings in determining whether a mix of uses can be accommodated on West Hayden Island. They will be presenting their findings at a City Council Session on July 29th, at 6:00p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
