Rivas-Scott Home
Summary:
In 1991, Alan Scott and Ana Rivas-Scott purchased a historic home in Portland’s Brooklyn Neighborhood that was built in 1904. Like any new homeowner, they immediately envisioned projects that would personalize the home according to their needs and values. Livability, style, comfort, environmental performance, affordability and historic preservation were of priority and continue to serve as the guiding principles of their ongoing home renovation. Over the years, they have completed a 1,030 square foot addition to their bedroom and various other projects such as a solar hot water heating system, in-floor radiant heat, and rainwater harvesting. Today these measures play an integral role in optimizing the performance of their growing home and demonstrate the potential to slowly integrate sustainability at home on a project by project basis.

Project Highlights:
  • Solar hot water heater
  • Radiant floor heating system
  • Renewable energy purchase
  • High efficiency lighting
  • Climate responsive design
  • Water efficient fixtures
  • Salvaged, recycled and FSC-certified materials
  • Bamboo floors
  • Healthy indoor materials
