Local Lunches
Farm to School programs across the county connect regional farmers with local schools in an effort to create a new market for the producers while improving the freshness and nutritional value of school meals. Incorporating local produce into school food programs requires a multidimensional approach including education, nutrition and distribution. While each of these components is significant to the success of a farm to school program, Local Lunches focused primarily on the distribution of local produce to school districts in Portland.
Recommendations are based on the current conditions of schools, distributors and farmers in the Portland area, as well as research on national Farm to School programs nationwide.
