Please join me at the first round of community workshops for the Portland Plan. The Portland Plan will be the City’s strategic plan for the next 25 years, ensuring that Portland is a thriving and sustainable city.
This is not your typical planning process. You will be asked to roll up your sleeves and join residents and businesses from all walks of life and all parts of the city. You will help to set the strategic direction for our community, define our priorities and guide our investments.
I know the fall is a busy season and that your schedules fill up quickly, so please mark your calendars for one of these workshops and join Mayor Sam Adams, your neighbors and others for a lively discussion.
And it will be a discussion—not a lecture! After we share with you some facts (and perhaps some hidden truths) about our city, we’ll be asking you questions that you can answer using a polling device similar to a remote control. This technology allows you to see your answers in real time and learn how your responses compare with those of other participants.
Then we’ll break into small discussion groups to talk about how to address the challenges we face, like providing jobs for everyone, building affordable housing, providing parks and greenspace and doing our part on climate change. We’re proposing some action areas that we need your feedback on, and together we’ll set goals that are relevant to our lives and neighborhoods.
Portland Plan Workshop 1: Chart a Course, is the first of a three-part series and will be offered throughout the city to make it easy for residents to participate.
