The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has selected members for eight Policy Expert Groups (PEGs) who will help develop, review and provide comments to City staff on proposed policy recommendations for the Portland Comprehensive Plan Update. The PEG members have made a significant volunteer commitment to work together over the next year to explore issues, advise staff and integrate Portlanders’ input into the Comprehensive Plan Update.
The Policy Expert Groups are:
- Community Involvement
- Education and Youth Success
- Economic Development
- Infrastructure Equity
- Neighborhood Centers
- Watershed Health and Environment
The Policy Expert Groups consist of approximately 15 to 25 members, representing both community and government viewpoints, as well as specific skills and expertise that relate to each PEG topic. Community members were selected through a competitive application process, with more than 150 community members applying to serve on a PEG. To kick off their work, Policy Expert Group members participated in well-attended orientation sessions in early June. At the orientation sessions, staff from the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and Office of Equity and Human Rights presented an introduction to the Comprehensive Plan Update and how it can forward the Portland Plan’s vision for a prosperous, educated, healthy and equitable Portland. PEG members were also given copies of the PEG Charter, Comprehensive Plan Update Overview and Policy Framework.
Each PEG will meet monthly between June 2012 and June 2013, with meetings beginning June 18, 2012. All PEG meetings are open to the public. Information about upcoming meetings can be found on the Meetings and Events calendar or in News and Updates.
