Description

Daylight Modeling with OpenStudio and Radiance Workshop

Rob Guglielmetti from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Commercial Buildings Research Group will present a one-day workshop on integrated daylight and building energy modeling, including the new, user-friendly Radiance daylight simulation capability in the OpenStudio energy modeling platform.

After attending this workshop, attendees will possess:

• A complete understanding of the challenges to integrated

whole building energy modeling

• Knowledge of the various lighting simulation algorithms, their

strengths & weaknesses

• A hands-on introduction to the installation and use of

OpenStudio to perform integrated daylighting and whole-building energy simulations

While the focus is on the use of Radiance to increase the accuracy of a whole building energy model, we will cover the basics of preparing a whole building energy model as well.

The event is sponsored by Bonneville Power Administration, Portland State University, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Energy Trust of Oregon.

NOTE: 3 CEUs are available for IESNA members.

The workshop and software are free.

Rob Guglielmetti joined NREL in May of 2009. Previously, he was a Daylighting Analyst and Group Leader for Architectural Energy Corporation in Boulder, CO. Prior to that he spent many years working at lighting design firms in NYC. In total, Rob has over twenty years’ experience in lighting, from lighting for the stage, to lighting some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Rob’s specialization is in physically-based lighting simulation, the integration of lighting simulation with whole-building energy simulations, and the application of high dynamic range imaging toward more pleasant -- and energy-efficient -- built environments.
