Hospitals, colleges and universities are among Portland’s largest employers, projected to make up 25 percent of the city’s total job growth over the next 2O Years. And because they are often in or close to residential areas, they are neighbors to many households. In addition to providing healthcare, education and jobs, these institutions often help to enhance their nearby communities. But as they grow in size, they need more space to provide for employees, services and equipment, and can create additional traffic.
Portlanders who have experience with hospital or college campus planning or development are invited to join the Comprehensive Plan Institutional Zoning Advisory Committee. This is an opportunity to support the implementation of the City’s new Comprehensive Plan, which will guide growth and development for the next 25 years. Advisory committee members will help shape new zoning standards and development review procedures, advise on neighborhood impact prevention and mitigation strategies, and identify infrastructure investment opportunities that could facilitate institutional employment growth.
The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will work to ensure diversity of members, including field experts, neighborhood groups, business and institutional associations, persons with disabilities, communities of color and interest groups.
