    What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

    Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between a farmer and member of the community. In a CSA, the community (households that are “shareholders” or “subscribers”) to provide the financial support for the season’s farming by purchasing a share of the harvest or becoming a member of the farm. Once harvesting begins, shareholders typically receive weekly shares of seasonal vegetables. Shares can also include fruit, eggs, dairy, meat and poultry depending on the farm’s production capabilities. By becoming a member of a farm, shareholders allow the farm to cover operating costs and provide security by assuming some of the growing risk with the farmer. In exchange, consumers are able to directly support the production and distribution of the season’s harvest, eat the freshest, local food available, support small farms, and protect farmland — a boon for farmers, consumers, and the broader community.

    Diggin' Roots Farm is a small diversified family farm about an hour south of Portland. We cultivate vegetables on a couple of acres and are renovating pasture and growing a flock of heritage sheep. We purchased our land in 2012 and plan to be certified organic in the spring of 2015. In the meantime, we farm without synthetic inputs, utilize cover crops, and plant as much as possible to support beneficial insects and pollinators.

    Dinihanian's Farm produce is certified organic, hand-picked and packed at the farm. To bring our members the most varied share the farm focuses on specialty open pollinated and heirloom varieties.     Flying Coyote Farm is a three-acre farm located in Sandy, OR. We raise a variety of vegetables and fruits using organic and biodynamic growing practices. We also have seasonally available pasture-raised eggs, chicken, goat meat,  pork, and raw goat's milk that can be added on to any share or mixed and matched. Our CSA shareholders receive the freshest and highest quality products from our farm with the ability to create a personalized share from our many offerings.

    Full Cellar Farm specializes in growing vegetables for preservation, fermentation, or storage. Crops include beets, pickling cucumbers, canning tomatoes, tomatillos, potatoes, cabbage, dry beans and winter squash. Members of Full Cellar Farm have a choice of which preserving crop "packages" they would like to purchase. Produce packages and pickup dates can be customized.

    Full Plate Farm is located on a gentle slope among oaks and firs in Ridgefield, Washington, 18 miles north of Portland. The farm specializes in winter produce and offers a seasonal bi-weekly CSA share that includes an abundance of root vegetables, winter greens, squash, leeks, garlic and herbs, among other delicious winter vegetables.

    Gathering Together Farm is certified organic and located in Philomath, OR. The farm is family owned and operated and produces over 40 different crops of 100 varieties of vegetables and fruits. Every week CSA shareholders will receive a generous selection of seasonal produce harvested directly from the farm and delivered to one of six convenient pick-up locations in the Portland metro area.

    Helsing Junction Farm is located in Independence Valley, about 20 miles south of Olympia Washington. For over 20 years, we have grown certified organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs on over 50 acres of farmland. Helsing Junction was one of the first CSA programs in Washington state.

    Hood River Organic is a cooperative CSA that offers boxes of local and organic produce year-round. We deliver weekly, bi-weekly and monthly CSA boxes directly to your house or to the many convenient pickup locations in the Portland metro-area. Hood River Organic works with other local producers to provide a diverse, customized CSA box that can include everything from seasonal produce, to bread, farm-fresh eggs, and local dairy products. 

    Illiamna Fish Company

    Illiamna Fish Company is a family fishing business, offering salmon shares. Iliamna Fish Company sockeye salmon are Marine Stewardship Council certified—signifying the ocean, rivers and lake where their wild sockeye grow are part of a healthy and pure marine ecosystem. A single CSA share of the salmon harvest consists of 21 lbs of premium wild sockeye salmon harvested from their Alaska fishery which consists of roughly 12 individually vacuum sealed and flash frozen fillets.

    Little Gnome Farm, located in Ridgfield, WA, grows an abundant array of fruits and vegetables using biodynamic and organic farming methods. We practice crop rotation and composting and strictly avoid the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. CSA shareholders will receive generous weekly shares of the farm’s seasonal harvest.

    Milk & Flowers grows and arranges flowers for CSA, weddings, and special events, and provides wholesale stems to florists. Our flowers are grown just north of Portland, using sustainable farming practices.

    Minto Island Growers is a 50-acre diversified farm and nursery located in south Salem that has been certified organic since 2009. Many existing native plant, mint, poplar and projects are grown on the farm and nursery, including a ½ acre camellia sinensis tea plot, Oregon's oldest and only commercial-scale tea planting.

The produce is organically grown in a nonprofit’s demonstration orchard in Oregon City.
