In 1997, the City of Portland envisioned a system that would facilitate GIS data sharing throughout the enterprise from a diverse group of software formats. City bureaus had developed data and systems to support bureau business, however, when it came time to share information it was very difficult or impossible due to incompatibility between multiple software platforms. In order to develop enterprise business applications, a complete up-to-date set of information is required. The Hub will provide this resource as well as tools for maintenance of the data and an application framework that will easily and efficiently integrate business and technology.
