BTS Division

Information Security

Description

  • Implements, monitors, and enforces security policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of City information and technology assets.

Standard Service Features

Corporate Network Security services include:

  • Internet Firewall: Generally restricts external (Internet) access to the City’s internal network. Protects computers on the City’s network from unauthorized access and attacks designed to exploit certain security vulnerabilities
  • Secure Web Gateway: The Secure web gateway manages and filters access to the Internet by City customers. Additionally, the secure web gateway logs all Internet activity of City users and computers and enforces City policies prohibiting access to certain types of Internet sites including those deemed as inappropriate. Lastly, the secure web gateway also provides a centralized location to block malicious software (malware)
  • Anti-Malware Software: Installed on City computers under enterprise license agreement for the purpose of protecting against virus and spyware vulnerabilities. Automatic updates are applied to all computers configured to receive them
  • Secure Remote Access:  See the Secure VPN - Secure Remote Access section of this catalog
  • Network Intrusion Detection: Monitors the City’s network at critical points to provide warning of actual or attempted intrusion
  • Strong Authentication: A means of securing access to various information technology assets. BTS maintains an authentication platform that authenticates the identity of person or entity via a token. This strong authentication system is currently utilized by the City’s remote access solution, but can be extended to other systems

Optional Service Features

BTS Information Security provides certain optional service features to a limited set of bureaus due to Payment Card Industry- Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) requirements. These features include:

  • Wireless Intrusion Prevention- A system that monitors the 802.11 (also known as WiFi) radiofrequencies for the presence of unauthorized wireless access points that may be attached to the City’s network
  • Configuration and Log Management – Systems that collect and correlate system logs and configuration changes within hardware and/or software such as operating systems, databases and directory services for the purpose of notifying BTS’s Information Security of certain security related issues
  • Vulnerability and Penetration Testing - A procedure that utilizes hardware and software to assess the relative security of a given piece of software that resides on the City’s network
