Service Description

Computer network connectivity for all applications and network components (servers, desktops, laptops, printers) at buildings where City workers reside.

Included Service Features (included in the standard cost)

Police IT Division provides:

  • Police IT Division works with vendors and BTS Communications Division to maintain and upgrade Police network infrastructure to sustain support and provide adequate network bandwidth for current Portland Police Bureau (PPB) applications
  • Install, manage, and maintain firewalls and data encryption to Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS) Security Policy standards
  • Install, manage, and maintain intrusion detection and intrusion prevention systems (IDS/IPS) to CJIS security policy standards
  • Maintain and examine network event logs to CJIS security policy standards
  • Network performance monitoring
  • Troubleshooting and analyzing network related problems
  • Wireless (Wi-Fi) networks for Police and guest access at select Police locations
  • Network upgrades required to support new business initiatives, applications, staff moves and adds, or non-standard   network connected devices.

Billable Service Features (not included in the standard cost)

  •   The following services are billed separately by BTS Communications Division
    • Network upgrades required to support new business initiatives, applications, staff moves and adds, or non-standard network connected devices
    • Wide Area Network (WAN) bandwidth upgrades to support computer and application response time improvements or staff additions
    • Cabling and Local Area Network connections for workstations and printers
    • Network upgrades required to add new buildings/locations to the City’s WAN.

Service Level Targets

  • 99.96% uptime for Police Network availability.

Service Initiation

To   initiate service, you can do one of the following:  

  1. Send an email to: btshelpdesk@portlandoregon.gov
  2. Call the BTS Helpdesk between 7:00am - 4:30pm M-F at: 503-823-5199
  3. Call the BTS Helpdesk after hours and choose the “Police” option in the voice menu
