THE FIREFIGHTER OPEN RECRUITMENT PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED & APPLICATIONS FOR FIREFIGHTER TRAINEE ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED.

Candidates with little or no fire service experience are encouraged to apply for Portland Fire & Rescue’s (PF&R) Firefighter Trainee Program.

The Firefighter Trainee Program consists of a "earn while you learn," comprehensive, paid, eight-week training program at PF&R's Training Center located at 4800 NE 122nd. Candidates will receive hands-on experience with the tools of the trade, and advance to the strenuous physical fitness level required of a firefighter.

During this program, Firefighter Trainees work a 40-hour work schedule. Trainee candidates who do not yet have an EMT-B certification will be paid to go through an additional six-week certification program.

After completion of the program, successful Firefighter Trainees are sworn in, join the Firefighter Recruits, and then advance to the Firefighter Recruit Academy together.
