Public Records Requests

Portland Fire & Rescue | REQUESTING INFORMATION

The City of Portland has launched a new web tool:  the Portland Public Record Request Center (GovQA). Championed by Mayor Charlie Hales, the GovQA software allows you to make public records requests through an online portal. Benefits include:

  • All requests can be made at one website.
  • Requests are routed directly to the bureau holding the records.
  • Payment can be made online with a credit card or electronic check.
  • All requests, all communications about the requests, and the statuses of all requests are available in one place.
  • Responsive documents will be accessible on line to the requester.

This tool will streamline the response process and will ensure that the City stays current with the evolving methods of record creation, retention, and retrieval.

For PF&R to process a fire report request, include the date and address of the fire, along with the $10 base fee and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  The base fee of $10.00 covers up to five pages of reports.  If the report exceeds five pages, there is an additional fee of $2.00 per page.  Photos may be available for a $20 flat fee (per CD).  Before sending a fee for photos, please call 503-823-3791 to ask if photos were taken. If you are contemplating a home purchase and have questions because you see evidence that might indicate a fire occurred, please call 503-823-3791 before sending a fire report request. Check or money orders should be made out to "City Treasurer".  If there is no report on file, the fee will not be refunded. Assuming the request is complete, normal turnaround time for fire report requests is approximately one to two weeks from the time the request is received in the Investigations Office.  Turnaround may be three weeks or more during the busy summer months.
