At 10:03pm an apartment fire was reported at 2601 N Lombard St. The first arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke from one of the 8 units in a one story apartment complex. The incident commander upgraded to a 2nd alarm response due to the number of residences and time of day/night. Truck 8, located just blocks away, was at the scene within 2min; the first engine company arrived shortly after. The fire had begun to spread to an adjoining unit before crews were able to contain it -restricting most damage to just the one unit. No injuries to residents, pets or firefighters was reported. Fire investigators are at the scene to determine cause and damage assessment. Incident commanders commented that the "quick response of nearby fire stations clearly prevented complete loss of the other 7 units of the apartment complex."
