Changing Cities: the Global View; a conversation with Patrick Phillips, CEO of the Urban Land Institute

Event Types > Community Events

How will Generation Y shape cities for the way they work, play, and live? How will technology change the way we work, shop, and connect in cities? How will capital markets reshaped by the Great Recession respond to rapidly changing demands?

As CEO of the Urban Land Institute, Patrick Phillips is privy to some of the many players attempting to divine the answers to these and other questions that will define cities. On Monday, February 10, he will share his views on his first visit to Portland.

From rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to the forces shaping exploding urban growth in China, Patrick Phillips has had a front-row seat turning the economics into buildings in his work at Economics Research Associates and Ernst & Young. Since being appointed to lead ULI, he has strengthened the organization’s presence in emerging markets and further engaged it on issues such as health and climate change, while being widely quoted in media venues as diverse as Bloomberg and Apartment Therapy. He teaches at Harvard's Graduate School of Design Executive Education Program and at the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University. The Urban Land Institute is a global nonprofit research and education organization with nearly 30,000 members representing all aspects of land use and development disciplines.
