The fictional Portland met the real Portland when Carrie Brownstein, one of the stars of the hit TV show “Portlandia,” spoke this month at Portland State University.
Real-life Mayor Charlie Hales introduced her to an audience of community leaders and representatives of the film industry, at a conference hosted by the State Film Office. Former Mayor Sam Adams had a recurring role on “Portlandia” as an aide to the fictional mayor.
Brownstein is perhaps better known to some in the Northwest as part of the now-defunct rock band Sleater-Kinney, which once was heralded by Time Magazine as “America’s best rock band.”
“Portlandia” appears on the IFC cable channel.
