July 31, 2013 | Oregonlive.com-- What do Portland Commissioner Steve Novick and former President Ronald Reagan have in common?
At least one thing, it turns out: Riding coat tails.
Novick on Wednesday compared his place in the Northwest Portland parking plan to Reagan's role in the 1981 release of American hostages in Iran.
Novick, like Reagan, stepped to the table after most of the work had been done, Portland's newest city commissioner said.
Novick shifted from the Reagan analogy during the Wednesday morning presentation about changes to the parking plan, which involve adding meters in January 2014, to terms of war. He described the city's original phased-in approach as "drawn out disarmament" and the agreement as an "uneasy truce."
Attorney Christe White, who represents several businesses in Northwest Portland, called the original plan "flawed" but spoke highly of the "newly discovered truce."
The City Council voted 4-0 Wednesday to support changes, with Mayor Charlie Hales on vacation, although a vote next week will formalize them. READ FULL ARTICLE
