Meet the intern, Timur Ender!

Timur grew up in Raleigh, NC and attended North Carolina State University graduating in criminology in 2011. In college he organized bike races for charity and helped develop a bike rental system for the university that was profitable in its first year. In 2009, Timur biked across America to raise money and awareness for affordable housing through the non-profit Bike & Build. Two years later he did it again, this time leading a group of 30 college students as they bike across the country.

Subsequent to Bike & Build, Timur was a fellow at the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership and was deputy campaign manager for the City of Raleigh’s 2011 Transportation and Affordable Housing Bond Referendum. The referendum provided the City with over $50 million for trails, bus shelters, bike lanes, and pothole repairs and passed with 69% of the vote, the largest margin in the City’s history of referendums.

Drawn to Portland’s strong quality of life, Timur transferred to Lewis & Clark law school from San Diego in January 2013; he plans to graduate December 2014. Prior to joining Commissioner Novick’s office, Timur interned at the Federal Transit Administration in Kansas City, MO and the Port of Portland.

Timur is fluent in Turkish and is also a trained emergency medical technician. During his externship, Timur will provide research assistance and support to advance Commissioner Novick’s efforts to identifying strategies that reduce healthcare costs and to underscore the health benefits of dynamic, multimodal transportation systems. Timur will be interning with Commissioner Novick’s office until late April 2014.
